Transferring an existing domain name entails switching the company that handles the registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS entry updates through the new registrar. The transfer procedure is standard with most generic and country-code TLD extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain name entails a few basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The domain lock is a security feature, which is being adopted by more and more domain name registry organizations. It’s a standard feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain name is locked, it will not be possible to start a transfer process, so nobody can even try to take your domain name. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain is registered in the first place and all new domain names that support this feature are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

Locking or unlocking any domain registered through us is very easy and can be done through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel – the one via which you administer your semi-dedicated server. You’ll see all your domains in the Registered Domains section and the ones whose extensions support the registrar lock feature will have a padlock-like icon on their right. You can unlock any domain by clicking on its icon and since the change will propagate instantly, you will be able to start the transfer process without waiting for the status to change on WHOIS lookup sites. If you change your mind and decide not to transfer the domain name away from our company, locking it again will be just as easy and will not take more than a couple of clicks of the mouse in your Hepsia Control Panel.
